Harmony

Here is another excerpt from my show, Syncretism, a study integrating aerial and dance. Harmony celebrates the ways aerial and dance can share a stage. Our narrator (taking notes in the video) states:

At first, the artists will take turns.
Two distinct groups speaking in the same room but not yet to each other.
Parallel Play, if you will. But that can change.
They’ll begin to notice, respond, and appreciate.
A delicate negotiation of space and weight, Air and Earth.
A peaceful coexistence is formed.
Friends, this is ‘Harmony.’

I produced this piece virtually, harnessing Zoom and StageKeep choreography software for the artists to study independently. I look forward to expanding this piece and adding layers of choreographic complexity.

My work is an ongoing study in syncretism, not only in the aerial and dance formats but also to thread a cohesive needle through the artists' different backgrounds and levels of training.

This exposure challenges us to appreciate the strengths of the individual artist. It challenges me to create dances in a more equitable landscape. And it's just great fun to bring different ready-and-willing friends together.
