By late 2020, it was clear the pandemic would impact Satellite Dance's 2021 programming. Once again, I sat at home trying not to bite my nails. I looked down at my coffee table and saw Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's photography book. That's it. We'll make a book documenting our experiences as artists during the pandemic. I knew we were creating something special once the renowned Michelle Reid was on board.
This book shares the stories of 24 artists. Their insights, vulnerability, and artistic expression channel our resilience within ourselves during a time of disruption.
As the vaccines rolled out, we celebrated the book with an evening of portraits coming to life. We transformed Arc Studios into a performance venue with three stages surrounding and intersecting the audience. It was an unforgettable moment in time.
