Hey, Friend.
First, let's address the elephant in the room. My last name is pronounced Eh-TEN-hand. I took my partner's name because I wanted to be featured first in show bills with a memorable name and not lost in the middle like the other Murphys in the world. (Yes, I got married young.) Thankfully, I have matured since then and started focusing on more critical arts matters, like finding the perfect Instagram handle or the perfectly balanced 1970s playlist for class. Sometimes, I have difficulty taking myself seriously with these attitudes, but you best believe I care deeply about my work. Let's make space between the silly and the serious and make great art together.
My Story
I've always been a song-and-dance person. But my life is marked with vacillations of big bursts of kinetic energy and trips to the hospital. How could I perform at a high level one day and feel so "lazy" the next day? I didn't know it at the time, but I was struggling with undiagnosed neurodivergence, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and ten co-morbid conditions. (Where's my bingo card?)
Since my diagnosis in 2023, I have learned how to become sustainable with my body, work, and professional relationships. Through this journey, I developed a keen sense for untapped potential, creative opportunity, and the often forgotten but most crucial element, rest. When I show up, I show up realistic, prepared, and by golly, deeply grateful to still be in the game. (And at the top of my game, too.)
Whether collaborating at a studio, on a performance, or developing the perfect project spreadsheet, I am 100% committed to our shared artistic success. (Yes, I consider a spreadsheet art.)
